Farewell to a legend

*FAREWELL TO A LEGENDARY JOHANNIAN - THE LATE MR. S. BALASINGAM (SJI64)*

Dear Johannians and alumni members,

It is with great sadness to announce that a dear friend and towering Johannian, Mr. S. Balasingam (SJI64) has returned to the Almighty late yesterday. He died peacefully at the age 73.

A great man and towering sports icon, our late Mr. S. Balasingam was a leading national hockey figure in the 70s-80s and was also a member of the Malaysian Olympic Hockey Team. Not once but he represented the nation in two Olympics; Munich (72) and Montreal (76) as well as Hockey World Cup Amsterdam (73) and Kuala Lumpur (75).

How can we not as fellow Johannians be proud of man who dedicated his passion for hockey and sports so remarkably throughout his life. The late Mr. S. Balasingam was also instrumental as an SJAA member where he co-founded the SJAA Hockey Club some 15 years ago.

On behalf of the SJAA, we express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of dearly departed whom we will remember always as great man and friend especially to the batch of SJI64.

We will cherish and celebrate his life for many years to come and pray that his soul be blessed by The Almighty.

Rest in peace dear Sir. A legend irreplaceable.
